Why contact ITRI WEO for cooperation with Taiwan?
ITRI Western Europe Office is a door-opener to Taiwanese R&D. We provide
you with first-hand, direct contacts to Taiwan's leading national research
institute for industrial technology (ITRI). Acting as a "one-stop-shop" ITRI
Taiwan offers various opportunities for mutual cooperation through the Science & Industrial
Parks based at Hsinchu and Tainan.
What are the advantages of cooperation with ITRI WEO?
ITRI WEO acts as a representative office for ITRI-Taiwan and a facilitator of international cooperation in e.g.: Joint R&D, Prototyping, Commercialization and/or Direct Market Access. Through first-hand information and advice, European entrepreneurs and scientists will benefit from our multilateral network, our flexible project development, and our target-oriented win-win strategies.
How is this cooperation paid?
ITRI is an independent institute partly funded by the Taiwanese Ministry of
Economic Affairs (MOEA) and the local industries. Similar to Germany´s Fraunhofer
Gesellschaft, ITRI acts as a non-profit, technology transfer organization.
ITRI WEO offers general contact and informational services free of charge,
but also serves as a consultancy for ambitious long-term partnerships open
to a wide range of finance models.
How about Intellectual Property Rights and standards?
Taiwan respects and follows international IP standards: ITRI relies on a detailed
IP structure, which is administered by a specific organization unit within.
For more information in English please refer to: IP Policy Statement. Any
cooperation issue demanding legal protection will be guided by formal procedures
agreed upon by both parties.
How does a typical cooperation look like?
Generally speaking, cooperation can be initiated on different levels: it may
cover such grounds as the exchange of experts/expertise, congress participation,
mutual delegations, liaison offices, joint ventures, patents, licenses, or
sales. Technology transfer partnerships are backed by NDA and MOU to protect
cooperative interests and to ensure future win-win collaboration.
Is there any limitation to cooperation due to political issues?
International cooperation with Taiwan is placed on a solid platform: Being
a member of such international organizations as the WTO, Taiwan adheres to
standard bilateral/multilateral trade agreements. Issues of R&D are not
hampered by political differences with the People´s Republic of China. Historical
and cultural ties also nurture a close interaction with the Greater China economy.
How about Taiwanese mentality?
Taiwanese people are open-minded, they have extended international experience
and enjoy both Asian and Western education. Turning from a newly industrialized
country into a knowledge society there is a business-oriented entrepreneurial
culture with innovative thinking and a strong sense for market demand.
